Technical Director Position at Oakville Soccer Club

Oakville Soccer Club is the largest soccer club in North America and the largest sports club of any kind in Canada. With over 12,700 players and a combined 18,000 aggregate registration base, the Club is a proud leader in soccer player development, particularly in youth age groups. As well as boasting a Youth House League of over 9,000 participants, the Club has a rich heritage of excellence and success. It has nine National Championship titles, over 50 Ontario Cups to its name and has a proud alumni of past and current national team players. The Club carries Gold Standard for Club Excellence from the Ontario Soccer Association, which was renewed in 2012.
As a result of the Club’s continued growth and evolution, Oakville Soccer Club is inviting applications for the position of Technical Director.

In this senior leadership role, you will have the opportunity to lead the development of one of the largest club-based youth sport systems in North America and truly make your mark on the development of soccer in Canada.
Armed with a heavily supported and highly acclaimed Technical Development Plan, a state-of-the-art 100,000ft2 indoor soccer complex in North Oakville, a staff of almost 30 well-qualified professional coaches, and a substantial technical budget, you will lead the technical development of all of the Club’s 12,700 players to help them be the best they can be.

Building on the Club’s sizable development programs and youth House League, you will also be responsible for the development of the club’s approximate 900 coaches and 350 referees.

You are a strong leader with a passionate belief in the value soccer brings to the development of people of all ages, but particularly youth. You are a proponent of both male and female soccer and you have experience building successful youth development systems in the game, ideally in Canada. You hold national level coaching qualifications and have a full working knowledge of what is needed to develop a player to the highest levels of the game.

You are an executor, who understands and believes in the long term technical direction that is being undertaken by Oakville Soccer Club. You are passionate to make the club’s technical plans and long term ambition a reality and raise the bar what Canadian club soccer can achieve.

You understand the role of coach education in the development of players and have experience developing such programs. You can lead and unify coaches, from experienced and highly qualified professionals, to volunteer rookies.
You excel in communication with multiple stakeholders, particularly players’ parents and guardians, and you can articulate the club’s technical vision, and achieve buy-in from non-technical people.

If this is you, Oakville Soccer Club wants to hear from you. This is an unmissable opportunity to apply your leadership and technical skills for the betterment of thousands of young people every year in a thriving community that has a passion for soccer. An attractive salary and benefits package awaits the successful candidate.

Jason de Vos Resigns as OSC Technical Director to Further Pursue Broadcast Career

It is with great sadness that Oakville Soccer Club announces the resignation of Technical Director Jason de Vos, who will be leaving the Club at the beginning of June to further pursue his career as a professional broadcaster and soccer analyst.

"Making the decision to leave Oakville was one of the most difficult decisions of my career,” said de Vos. “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with everyone at the Club - the Board of Directors, the staff, the coaches, the players and the volunteers.”

“In my opinion, OSC is the most progressive, forward-thinking youth soccer club in Canada, if not in North America. That is a directly due to the people involved with the Club, and I am confident that the Club will continue to be the leader in youth soccer in Ontario and in Canada."

Jason leaves OSC to accept a fulltime broadcasting opportunity that will see him as a key figure in the permanent TSN soccer broadcasting crew. This new fulltime opportunity means, unfortunately, he can no longer maintain the substantial commitments that the position of OSC Technical Director demands.

During his approximate year and a half at OSC, Jason has led transformational change to redesign the club’s soccer programs and drive the technical advancement of all its players. He has been responsible for the development of the Club’s first fully-integrated Technical Development Plan and instituted an impressive faculty of professional coaching staff to drive execution of this Plan into the club’s substantial player base.

At OSC, Jason has launched an expanded Fall/Winter development program that extends skills development opportunities to more players than ever before. He has also initiated the Club’s first structured coach development program.

He has worked tirelessly at the District and Provincial levels to drive reform to youth competition systems that allow the best environment for the Club’s players to develop in game play. Jason has undeniably been instrumental in reshaping the technical direction of the Club and solidifying OSC as a leader in community soccer in Canada.

As the Club enters its busiest season, Jason will remain committed to overseeing the successful launch of the 2012 Summer Outdoor Season, OSC’s early involvement in the Peel Halton Development League, and providing technical guidance to the many OSC coaches throughout the month of May.

Moving forward, the club remains fully committed to the implementation of the Technical Development Plan that Jason crafted, with the principles of Long Term Player Development remaining the backbone of OSC’s technical direction. The Club will commence the immediate search for a new Technical Director to fully implement its Plan and uphold its commitment to advance every player.

Oakville Soccer Club is extremely fortunate to have had Jason head the Technical Staff and without a doubt, his vision and commitment to soccer in the community have changed the face of the club forever.

“We are very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Jason.  He has brought a ‘player first’ philosophy to the club that has created a wonderful learning environment for every child and built a best-in-class coaching team.” said Oakville Soccer Club CAO Paul Varian.

“On behalf of everyone at OSC I would like to offer Jason sincere thanks for all that he has achieved here. We are very saddened to see him go but wish him every success in his fulltime broadcasting career and any future endeavours.”
