On February 16, 2012 former Oakville Soccer Club player and Canadian women’s national team standout Kara Lang will be inducted into the Oakville Sports Hall of Fame.
Kara played for the national team for nine years, making her debut at age 15. The youngest female player to ever score an international goal, Kara quickly became one of the most recognized and celebrated female soccer players in Canada and on the world stage.
She scored 34 goals in 92 appearances for the national team and helped the team reach the quarter final stage at the Beijing Olympics, falling just short to the eventual gold medal winning US squad. When she wasn’t competing for team Canada, Kara was a standout at UCLA with a rookie year that included 17 goals and six assists in just 24 games.
Though she retired early in 2011, Kara continues to be involved in the game and has begun a sports broadcasting career and currently works as a soccer analyst with Rogers Sportsnet.
Kara has always been extremely supportive of OSC and her hometown and we are thrilled to support her as she accepts this honour from the Oakville Sports Hall of Fame.
We invite all members interested in attending to join us at the Induction Gala on Thursday, February 16 at the Oakville Conference and Banquet Centre. Other inductees for 2012 include football players Mike (Pinball) Clemons and Mike Vanderjagt, as well as harness racer Rick Zeron.
Proceeds of the dinner will continue to allow the Oakville Sports Hall of Fame to honour Oakville sports men and women for their accomplishments and will further the Bursary Program which assists young athletes in the community.
Please join us on February 16 as Oakville honours the achievements of Kara Lang and other outstanding athletes from the community.
