Evan James Drafted by Montreal Impact

OSC alumn Evan James was selected first overall in the MLS Supplemental Draft by the league's most recent expansion team, the Montreal Impact.

After a strong showing and two amazing goals at the 2012 MLS Combine, James was widely anticipated to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft on January 12. He narrowly missed out on one of the top 38 spots, but Impact manager Jesse Marsch announced the 21-year-old James as the first pick on January 17.

A very quick and technically sound winger, James impressed numerous scouts at the Combine in Florida. A senior at UNC Charlotte, he most recently led his team to a second -place finish at the College Cup and was a First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection.

The addition of James helps the Impact reach the requirement of having three Canadian players on the roster. He will compete for a starting position as a winger with the likes of Justin Mapp and Sanna Nyassi.

With the ability to play on either the left or right, and coming off arguably the best year in his soccer career, there is no saying how great of an impact James could have for Montreal in the team's inaugral season.

Fans will no doubt enjoy seeing such a strong Canadian talent representing a Canadian team.
