OSC Boys U17A 2011 Disney Soccer Showcase Champions!

The Oakville Boys U17A team returned from Orlando, Florida triumphant after being crowned champions at the 2011 Disney Soccer Showcase Tournament. The Disney Soccer Showcase tournament is one of the most prestigious US tournaments and featured nearly 300 boys teams - including 125 state champions between the ages of 15 and 19.
The team progressed through the preliminary round undefeated with a 3-0 record. They defeated Maryland State semi-finalists Freestate Red Devils 3-2, Bayside United Premier from New York 6-0 and Florida State semi-finalist West Pines United FC Black 3-2. During the preliminary round, Mathew Santos scored six goals, Bishoy Girgis scored three and Daniel Borg, Braden Culver and Nick McVicar each scored one goal.
In the Boys U17 Predator - Black championship game, Oakville played the Indiana State Champion Carmel United SC Elite. The championship game was a nail biter, ending 0-0 after regulation and extra time. The game was decided on penalty kicks 4-2 for Oakville, with goalkeeper Ignacio Jimenez making two great saves and Nick McVicar, Braden Culver, Bishoy Girgis and Mathew Santos all scoring on their penalty kicks.
The Disney Soccer Showcase was the sixth US tournament that this team has competed in over the last three years. The team has had a very successful run in US tournaments - with 23 wins, two ties and only one loss against a fellow Canadian team. In the six US tournaments, the team has won four championships (two in College Showcase tournaments), one consolation championship and reached the semi-finals in the other tournament.
