Coerver© Coaching Curriculum and
Mission
Coerver© Coaching’s mission is to provide the world’s best
youth soccer educational services and products at its player Camps, Schools and
Coaches’ Clinics and to make the benefits of Coerver© Coaching available as
widely as possible through its network of Coerver© Coaching licensees.
Our goals are to:
- Develop skilled, confident and creative players.
- Make the game fun to practice and play.
- Teach good sportsmanship and respect for all.
- Value winning, but not more than character and performance.
We believe team systems and tactics are only as good as the
individual players in it. We view the
game as sequences of play between 2, 3 and sometimes 4 players in ever changing
parts of the field. Our belief is team
success hinges on individual player performances in these sequences. Consequently Coerver© Coaching focuses on
improving individual and small group play, especially in the formative years.
The Coerver© method has been endorsed by many famousinternational players and coaches including: Franz Beckenbauer and Jürgen
Klinsman, Germany; Sir Stanley Mathews; Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United;
Arsene Wenger of Arsenal; Carlos Alberto Parreira, Brazil; Gerrard Houllier,
Lyon and Anson Dorrance, coach of the US Women’s 1991 World Cup Champions.
Our curriculum is based on the Pyramid of Player Development©. This revolutionary program was developed by
Coerver© Coaching. It provides a unique and logical approach to the development of young players.
Objective and Importance of Player Evaluation
The objective of the Skills Test program is for each
individual to challenge themselves to improve the fundamental skills required
to play the game of soccer. Players
should be tested early in order to set personal goals and for players to
recognize their improvement over a period of time.
Areas where players will be tested are; Ball Mastery,
Accuracy in Passing, Accuracy in Shooting, Dribbling and Fitness with the Ball,
all skills that are required and continually practiced by players who play at
the highest level.
These tests are designed to be fun yet challenging, allowing
players to visually see the scores that reflect their improvement; this in turn
will leave players feeling good about their personal achievement and
improvement. More importantly it will encourage players to practice their
skills at home.
Expectations by both player and Coach should be realistic
towards test scores, it is unrealistic for the Coach to expect top scores at
the first attempt and recommended that players test no less than three times
per season;
1. Pre-season
2. Mid-season
3. Season’s end
The Skills Test will allow even the less skillful players
the opportunity to experience personal success and feeling good about
themselves. |
