The Oakville Soccer Club is excited to host Canada Soccer's first National Para Soccer camp of the 2016 season at the Pine Glen Soccer Centre from May 5 - May 8.
The squad is preparing for this summer's IFCPF Qualification Tournament in Vejen, Denmark.
20 players have been selected for the five-day camp in Oakville. Canada's National Para Soccer Team is made up of athletes who have cerebral palsy or have had a stroke or brain injury.
Canada Soccer has invited a special guest to the upcoming Para Soccer camp in Oakville, Ontario: five-time JUNO award winner and #CanadaRED fan Alan Frew. The lead singer of Canadian rock group Glass Tiger will take part in a special session on Friday, May 6th OSC. Mr. Frew himself is presently recovering from a stroke suffered in August 2015.
This year marks the 13th edition of the National Para Soccer program. Just last year, Canada finished 10th at the biennial CP-ISRA World Championship and fourth at the Toronto 2015 Parapanamerican Games.
“On behalf of Oakville SC, I am proud to welcome Canada Soccer's National Para Soccer Team to Oakville," said David Harris, Executive Director of Oakville SC. "The ability to host this world-class is truly an honour and we look forward to assisting in the team’s preparation for their qualifying event in Denmark in July.”
The Oakville Soccer Club is proud and excited to welcome these players to our home this week and encourages all players and members to come and check out the Canada National Para Soccer Team at OSC.
