OAKVILLE, ON - The Oakville Soccer Club is proud to announce that 20 players from the Club's OPDL program have been selected to move forward into Ontario Soccer’s 2018 Provincial Projects program.
The Provincial Program is available to all Ontario Soccer registered players who are competing at the U14, U15 or U16 age group. The Ontario Player Development League (OPDL) is the primary venue in which potential Provincial Team Players are detected. The Oakville Soccer Club’s U13 and U14 players have been selected by Ontario Soccer based on their performance during the 2017 OPDL season.
Founded in 2014, the OPDL is Ontario's standards-based high performance league. It combines top level competition with strict high performance training standards with the goals of developing the top soccer talent within the province.
The Provincial Program focuses on player screening, talent identification and benchmarking of players through competition.
The U14, U15 and U16 Provincial Projects will take place from January to April. It will involve three player screening weekends (January 13-14, February 24-25 and March 24-25), one preparation weekend (April 21-22) and one Inter-Provincial Teams Competition (Apr. 27, 28, 29).
Canada Soccer will be present at the Inter-Provincial Competition in April to scout the players for potential invitations to National Excel Environments.
OSC Executive Director Dave Harris said of the selections: “OSC is proud to congratulate the 20 members of our Ontario Player Development League teams who have moved on to Ontario Soccer’s Provincial Projects program.
