OAKVILLE, ON - The Oakville Soccer Club is proud to announce that long time Oakville resident Melissa Snedden has been appointed to the FIFA International List for 2018 as an Assistant Referee. Melissa began her Officiating career at the age of 12 with the Oakville Soccer Club and has over 16 years of experience which has included games at the House League, Regional, Provincial, OUA and League 1 levels. Her career highlights to date have included participation in the “Canada Summer Games” and a “CONCACAF” Tournament in Florida as well as many other prestigious events.
Melissa graduated from Nipissing University with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography in addition to a Bachelor of Education and is currently employed as a teacher with the Halton Board of Education. During her time at University, Melissa worked at the Oakville Soccer Club as an assignor, mentor and Official during the summer months.
Melissa's additional activities include accreditation as an Ontario Soccer Fitness Instructor, Fitness Test supervisor and Youth Mentor. For the past two years, she has worked with the Oakville Soccer Club and the Peel Halton Soccer Association in the development and implementation of fitness programs for Match Officials of all levels.
OSC Referee Development Manager Richard Bowden said of Melissa's accomplishments “I am excited to see Melissa achieve her Officiating goals. Her commitment and hard work have culminated in the ultimate achievement for an outstanding individual and athlete”.
The appointment to “FIFA” is the highest level of recognition for Officials worldwide and is the culmination of many years of hard work, commitment and dedication to the game of Soccer in Canada. The Oakville Soccer Club is proud to have been able to make a contribution to her success along with the Ontario Soccer Development team and Canadian Soccer.
