The Oakville Soccer Club is proud to announce that 22 players from the Club's OPDL program have been selected to participate in the Ontario Soccer Provincial Screening Competition during the month of October.
These U14, U15 and U16 players have been selected by Ontario Soccer based on their performance during the 2019 OPDL season. Founded in 2014, the OPDL is Ontario's standards-based high-performance league. It combines top level competition with strict training standards with the goals of developing the top soccer talent within the province.
Provincial Screenings will take place in October with selected players representing Ontario in national play in 2020. OSC was proud to have 37 players participate in the Provincial Screenings in 2018 with 8 of those players being selected to represent Team Ontario in their respective age groups in 2019.
“I would like to congratulate all of the Oakville Soccer Club players who have been invited by Ontario Soccer to participate in the Provincial Screening Competition,” said Executive Director Dave Harris. “The dedication and perseverance of these players made this opportunity possible. I would also like to recognize OSC’s coaches and Technical staff who were instrumental in the development of these young individuals. We wish all the players good luck as they work towards the goal of joining the Provincial Program.”
OSC's Senior Technical Director Chris Grierson said: “We are incredibly proud of these players for being invited to the Provincial Screening Competition. OSC continues to strive to develop players and give them the skills required to excel during the OPDL season and during opportunities like this. We wish them the best of luck!”

To our valued membership,
Today we recognize Rowan's Law Day. Rowan’s Law is named after Rowan Stringer, a high school rugby player from Ottawa, who died in the spring of 2013 from a condition known as second impact syndrome (swelling of the brain caused by a subsequent injury that occurred before a previous injury healed).
Rowan is believed to have experienced three concussions over six days while playing rugby. She had a concussion but didn’t know her brain needed time to heal. Neither did her parents, teachers or coaches. Rowan’s Law and Rowan’s Law Day were established to honour her memory and bring awareness to concussions and concussion safety.
In order to raise awareness of concussions and their long and short term implications, the Government of Ontario established Rowan’s Law in 2018 which makes it mandatory for sports organizations to:
The Oakville Soccer Club proudly supports of Rowan’s Law and the safety our players, and as such has a Concussion Code of Conduct for Players and a Concussion Return to Play Protocol in place. OSC will continue to share information regarding concussion identification and awareness throughout upcoming seasons.
We encourage you to read more about Rowan’s Law and Ontario's Concussion Awareness Resources by clicking here. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the Club at any time.
Regards,
Dave Harris
Executive Director
The Oakville Soccer Club is sad to share the news the Nick Vetro, Youth House League and Special Programs Coordinator will be leaving OSC as of August 25th.
Nick played soccer with OSC throughout his childhood, and worked as a Client Services and Facilities staff before taking on the role of Youth House League and Special Programs Coordinator in 2016. Nick’s contributions to the Club have been significant, from helping to develop volunteer coaches and convenors to managing program staff to working hard to ensure that each and every player at the Club has had a positive soccer experience.
“Nick has been a great asset to the Oakville Soccer Club and his personality will be missed by all. We wish Nick all the best and hope that he coaches at OSC one day soon,” said Chris Grierson, OSC’s Senior Technical Director.
As Nick moves on to the next chapter of the career, we are pleased to announce to hiring of Leah Sherrett who will take over the role with the support of the Club’s Senior Technical Director Chris Grierson and the rest of the Technical staff. Leah brings her extensive knowledge of the House League program to the position and is excited about working with all our volunteer coaches and convenors as well as the membership of the Oakville Soccer Club.
OSC Executive Director Dave Harris stated: “We are sad to see Nick leave the organization but excited to see what the future holds for him. I know he will be successful in the next facet of his life.”
Please join us in wishing Nick all the very best in his future endeavours.
Thanks for all that you have done, Nick – you will be missed, but we know you won’t be a stranger!
Please be advised that due to inclement weather, the Active Start program taking place at Isaac Park this morning (Saturday, August 17) is cancelled.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
To the Oakville Soccer Club Membership:
As a responsible not-for-profit organization, communication and transparency is a priority for the Club’s management and Board of Directors. We are writing to you today to advise you of the addition of HST to the Club's registration fees beginning with the 2019-20 Fall and Winter seasons.
Being fiscally responsible to our members means that we have been able to maintain our high calibre programming in the past while absorbing as many of the costs as possible. Unfortunately, a ruling was made against the Oakville Soccer Club by the Canada Revenue Agency which is out of our control and will necessitate future cost increases.
In July of this year the Canada Revenue Agency officially notified the Club that effective with our Fall 2019 season, the Oakville Soccer Club must now add HST to all programs which feature players U15 and older. This notice now means that all individual Youth and Adult registrations which reflect these age groups must be charged an additional 13% on top of the Club fee.
Consequently, as a not-for-profit organization with an obligation to operate not only in a fiscally responsible manner but to remain compliant with the Canada Revenue Agency, it is now necessary to add the 13% HST to the Club’s registration fees beginning with the Fall season. Despite this ruling, we are working to mitigate the cost for next year’s Summer Outdoor registrations and will notify you of our progress prior to the opening of that registration period in January of 2020.
We recognize that increased costs can make playing soccer difficult for some and as such the Club is taking every step necessary to ensure we are creating a positive and affordable soccer experience for all of our members.
As an organization that prides itself on its reputation in the community and its relationship with its members, we felt there was a need to communicate and be as transparent as possible with you today. We would like to thank you again for being a member of the Oakville Soccer Club and look forward to seeing you on the pitch this season.
Sincerely,
OSC Board of Directors
