OAKVILLE SOCCER CLUB GRANTED NATIONAL YOUTH CLUB LICENCE BY CANADA SOCCER

OAKVILLE, ON - The Oakville Soccer Club is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the National Youth Club Licence by Canada Soccer.

The top amateur youth club designation in the Canada Soccer Club Licensing Program, the National Youth Club Licence recognizes the highest achieving organizations from across Canada. The Canada Soccer Club Licensing Program is designed to guide member organizations throughout the country toward best principles for organizational development both on and off the field. By raising the standards of member organizations, both the daily playing environment and participant experience are enhanced; thereby improving the overall soccer system in Canada.

The primary goals of the Canada Soccer Club Licensing Program are to:

  • Set clearly defined standards and expectations for member organizations;
  • Recognize excellence in the soccer community;
  • Raise the level of all soccer organizations throughout Canada; and,
  • Drive change in the soccer system.

“We are pleased to announce the exemplary National Youth Club Licence holders that have worked diligently over the past 12 months to demonstrate a willingness to improve, to collaborate, and most importantly to raise the level of youth football in our country,” said Jason deVos, Canada Soccer’s Director of Development. “Each club worked with Canada Soccer and their respective Provincial and Territorial Member Association to define a roadmap of standards designed to improve the experience for all who participate in the game.”

National Youth Club Licence holders display characteristics and demonstrate behaviours aligned with the highest expectations of governance, administration, infrastructure, and technical while supporting their provincial association and Canada Soccer.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for the Oakville Soccer Club,” said OSC Executive Director Dave Harris.  “We are proud to achieve this status and it is a credit to our Board of Directors, staff, coaches and volunteers that we were awarded this licence.  The awarding of this licence demonstrates the Club’s commitment to its membership and the community of Oakville.”

Successful organizations have been granted the National Youth Club Licence for a period of two years and have created a collaborative work plan to ensure that they continue to meet the requirements and progress to further achieve the standards set by Canada Soccer. OSC’S 2003 BOYS CAPTURE GATORADE 5V5 CHAMPIONSHIP AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY ON THE WORLD STAGE

OAKVILLE, ON – Six members of OSC’s Boys U16 OPDL squad will be heading to Madrid, Spain to compete in the Gatorade 5v5 Global Finals after capturing the championship at this weekend’s Gatorade 5v5 Tournament presented in partnership with Ontario Soccer.

The Gatorade 5v5 Tournament, which took place at the Pickering Soccer Centre on March 30 and 31, saw four OSC teams compete, each comprised of six players from the Club’s Girls and Boys U16 OPDL teams. All four teams played impressively throughout the group stage on Saturday and advanced to the knockout stage on Sunday.

After a 3-2 win over North Toronto Soccer Club in the quarter finals and a 6-1 victory against Wexford, Oakville 1 headed to the finals against Woodbridge. After an exciting game with only one goal scored, OSC emerged as the champions, securing their spot in the Gatorade Global Tournament in Spain.

“This was another tremendous event put together by Gatorade and Ontario Soccer," said Chris Grierson, OSC Senior Technical Director. "Last year the group made it to the semi-final, so to see OSC go one stage later and win the whole event is a wonderful achievement. The players and coaching staff are ecstatic and looking forward to representing Ontario and Canada in Madrid.”

Gatorade 5v5 was created by the sport beverage company to promote the talent of young players who want to take their game to the next level. The Canadian tournament is presented by Gatorade Canada in partnership with Ontario Soccer, and provides the winners of the tournament the opportunity to travel to Madrid, Spain in May to represent Canada and compete against their peers from over 20 countries in the Gatorade 5v5 Global Tournament.

“The Oakville Soccer Club is extremely proud of these young men and their tremendous accomplishment,” said Dave Harris, OSC Executive Director. “We know that they will represent the organization well in competing in the Gatorade Global Tournament. We wish them all the best as they travel to Madrid, Spain to compete.”

The Oakville 1 team is comprised of players Tyler Curtis, Zachary Ladha, Dylan Lopes, Yves-Michael Tcheuyap, Aleks Petrovic and Lucas Russo, and is coached by Bruno Silva and Worrell Wright.

The Oakville Soccer Club wishes these athletes the best of luck during this exciting once in a lifetime opportunity!

OSC LAUNCHES NEW COACH CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

OSC LAUNCHES NEW COACH CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
First Program of its Kind Among Amateur Clubs in Ontario

OAKVILLE, ON – The Oakville Soccer Club is pleased to announce the launch of the Club's new Coach Certification Program.

This Coach Certification Program, the first of its kind in Ontario, was created by OSC for Youth House League Coaches and is designed to educate participants about expectations from the Club, key formations and rules of the game for various age groups, and to provide coaches with the tools and knowledge they need to be successful in their role. This certification program is provided at no cost and is available to all registered volunteer coaches.

The Oakville Soccer Club is proud to work with over 700 House League Coaches annually and consistently strives to ensure that each and every one feels comfortable and supported by the Club. Along with the existing support mechanisms the Club currently has in place (Coach Education Workshops, Templates, Coach Mentorship, etc.), OSC's Coach Certification Program will help coaches to expand their knowledge through videos that highlight some of the most important aspects of the game and enhance the experience of the players.

OSC's Coach Certification is made up of several online modules. Once a coach has registered with OSC, they will receive information regarding accessing the certification modules from the Club. Each module takes less than 10 minutes to complete and can be done quickly and easily on a personal computer, phone or tablet. Each module features a short video (earphones or speakers are required) and is followed by a short quiz. Once the quiz is successfully completed, coaches will have the opportunity to download and print their certificate of achievement. Module One is now live and has now been distributed to current OSC coaches. Additional modules will be available in April. Please click here to view the Module One video - Expectations of an OSC Coach. Click here for more details about the Coach Certification Program.

In developing the new program, Oakville Soccer Club Executive Director said, “I am very excited about the OSC’s new Coach Certification Program. One of our clear mandates is to ensure that our valued volunteers are given every opportunity to succeed and enjoy their experience. We believe that this program provides our coaches with the necessary tools to succeed and develop while providing a positive soccer experience for all.”
