OSC's Boys U14C team travelled to Kingston, Ontario on July 21st to participate in the 28th Annual Ambassador Cup Tournament. Knowing that only the top team in each of the four groups of their 16 team division would make the semi-finals, the Wild took the field with determination.
In the group stage the boys tied Whitby A 1-1 in a hard fought first game, defeated Caven FC 4-0 in their second game and won 4-0 against the Cumberland Cobras in the third game. Finishing at the top of their group, the boys advanced to the semi-finals as they had set out to do.
Up against the Brampton Blast, the Wild's defense skills were tested when OSC's goalie came out of the game due to injury and defender Ricky S. stepped in to take over as keeper. The stand-in keeper and defense rose to the occasion and the boys won 2-1 to advance to the final.
In the final against Brantford Galaxy Black, a tense battle ensued but neither team budged, fininshing the game with a 0-0 tie. After five penalty kicks, the shoot-out continued to sudden death. On the 7th shot, Brantford took the advantage and the Wild took the silver medal.
OSC's player exhibited fantastic sportsmanship as they congratulated Brantford players on their win, and displayed integrity, skill and respect throughout the tournament.
The Ambassador Cup was the third tournament in a row in which the BU14C team made the finals.
Congratulations to all players, coaches, managers and parents on a fantastic tournament! Great job, Wild!
