The Oakville Soccer Club hosts Game Leader, Small Sided Game, and Entry Level certification courses as a member of Ontario Soccer from January to May each year. To be included on the mailing list for upcoming certification courses, please email Matthew Aslett, Youth Match Official and Mentor Facilitator, at email@example.com with the candidate's first name, last name, year of birth, and any prior officiating certifications.
The 2020 course dates will be announced in November 2019 with registration starting in December 2019. A step-by-step registration guide will be provided. Please note applicants must apply on RefCentre and then submit their course payment through SportSavvy within the time period specified in the registration information email as courses are limited to 25 students only. Full attendance at the course is necessary to earn the certification. Applicants will also receive details about how to purchase their officiating uniform and equipment.
Oakville Soccer Club Match Official Summit (May)
To officiate at OSC in 2020, new and returning officials must attend OSC's annual Match Official Summit on Monday, May 11th from 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. at the Pine Glen Soccer Centre. The Summit was initiated in 2018 to educate officials and guide them with pre-season preparations. Officials are allocated to orientation groups based on their certification level as follows: (1) New and Returning Game Leader and Small Sided Game officials, (2) New and Early Entry Level officials (1 to 2 years of experience), and (3) Talented Pathway officials (3 years of experience and more). The Summit includes 2 classroom sessions and 2 on-field practical sessions with experienced officiating instructors and speakers. Registration is mandatory but there is no charge to officials.
Game Leader Certification Course (January to May)
The Game Leader Course is designed for those who would like to facilitate 5v5 games through application of coaching and officiating principles. Candidates are 12 years of age within the current calendar year. The course is offered as a 30 minute online module through Coach Centre which is followed by a quiz. Candidates will be provided with the club registration code and must submit their Certificate of Completion to Matthew Aslett.
Small Sided Certification Course (January to May)
The Small Sided Game Clinic is designed for those who would like to become an accredited match official for 7v7 games and are 12 years of age (by March 31st of the current year) or older. Successful graduates are automatically registered with Ontario Soccer and do not have to register again until the following year. Candidates are eligible to officiate at any club or district within Ontario following completion of the course.
The cost for the 2020 Small Sided Game Course (6 total hours of classroom and field training) at Oakville Soccer Club is $125. The course dates for 2020 are as follows:
Course 1: Tuesday February 18, 2020 (6pm to 9pm), Wednesday February 19, 2020 (6pm to 9pm)
Entry Level Certification Course (January to May)
The Entry Level Match Official Clinic is designed for those who would like to become an accredited match official for 9v9 and 11v11 games and are 14 years of age (by March 31st of the current year) and older. Successful graduates are automatically registered with Ontario Soccer and do not have to register again until the following year. Candidates are eligible to officiate at any club or district within Ontario following completion of the course.
The cost for the 2020 Entry Level Course (16 total hours of classroom and field training) at Oakville Soccer Club is $195. The course dates for 2020 are as follows:
Couse 1: Friday February 14, 2020 (6pm to 9pm), Saturday February 15, 2020 (9am to 5pm), and Sunday February 16, 2020 (9am to 5pm)
Ontario Soccer Annual Registration Exam (January to March)
Each year, Ontario Soccer requires its returning officials for Small Sided Game and Entry Level to complete a registration exam and payment on RefCentre. The registration process is mandatory to officiate in any games within Ontario including at OSC. The registration period typically starts in late January and the deadline is on March 31. Any officials who complete the Small Sided Game or Entry Level courses in a given year are exempt from the registration process during that year. Through completion of the registration process on time each year, officials do not need to re-complete previous certification courses.
